About Me

Hi, I’m Erica. I write dark, gritty historical romantic suspense, though currently, I am on a writing sabbatical. It’s my firm belief that everyone deserves a love story, so I write books about people from all different social classes living in nineteenth-century England. I love history–especially the weird, wild, and mysterious parts (shoutout to my fellow historical true crime fans!) From the dank rookeries of London to Egypt’s pyramids, my favorite part about writing is the research, and my overflowing bookshelves attest to it.

I am a stay at home mom to a truly fantastic, very sassy daughter and I also care for many beloved rescue pets. I drink a truly outrageous amount of coffee and watch an equally outrageous amount of television. Part of the reason I believe so strongly in true love is because I married my high school sweetheart, and together we continue to take on any challenge we might face.

This life-size skeleton was a gift from an editing client. I've named him Fortunado.

Praise for Erica's Books

Engrossing...very evocative of the era. A book with grit, the kind of historical I want to read.

The loyalties are fierce, the violence is not sugar-coated and Ms. Monroe's descriptive prose really puts the reader slap-bang in the middle of the muddy streets and dank alleyways of the East End of London or sits them at the bar in the crowded, smoke-filled, gin-scented pub...the perfect introduction to the seamier, darker side of pre-Victorian London and this author's world of ordinary men and women doing what they must to keep body and soul together.
Erica Monroe's voice is a breath of fresh air for the historical romance genre. The Determined Duchess is wildly inventive, with a romance you will root for!
